 El andamiaje son los pasos que los docentes toman para apoyar a los estudiantes de modo que puedan entender nuevo contenido y desarrollar nuevas habilidades. Más adelante, los estudiantes podrán usar lo aprendido en diferentes contextos sin el apoyo del andamiaje. El andamiaje es un soporte temporal que ayuda a los estudiantes a realizar tareas ahora y en el futuro. Vygotsky escribió que lo que los estudiantes pueden hacer hoy con apoyo, lo podrán hacer por sí mismos mañana (citado en Gibbons, 2008).
